From the Brookline TAB on March 30th
Sunday afternoon Betsy DeWitt kicked off her Campaign for Selectman. More than 100 enthusiastic people crowded the home of hosts Jane and Reed Larsen. Marcia Heist, former Chairman of the School Committee and Campaign co-chair speaking for herself and co-chair Donna Kalikow, introduced DeWitt. She said “Over many years working with Betsy, I have always found her willing to listen to all sides of an issue before forming an opinion–then she can be very candid in stating what she believes. We need her voice for Brookline.” DeWitt spoke, emphasizing her desire to hold onto the “messy diversity” of the town. “I believe in public discussion, public participation, public disclosure, and rebuilding public trust. I look forward to working with all of Brookline.” DeWitt pointed to her experience with the Town’s budgets, “We must keep to the fiscal policies first adopted in 1994 that have provided stability over the past decade. I will draw on my experience on the Advisory Committee and on building construction oversight committees to work on the best strategies to control costs so that we can fully fund our schools and public services.” As Campaign co-chair John Bassett said in a letter read by his wife, Christina Wolfe, “Betsy will be a productive Selectman from her first meeting.” Her website is found at www.betsydewitt.org.
