The Brookline Civic Association (BCA) announces its unanimous endorsement of Robert Allen and Betsy DeWitt for Selectman. "The BCA, the moderate political voice in Brookline," said Dr. Robert I. Sperber its chairman, " is proud to endorse Robert Allen for reelection because of his outstanding record of leadership." Selectman Allen chaired the successful Brookline 300th celebration, the Comprehensive Plan Committee and the Zoning By-law Committee. He is currently providing leadership to the Gateway East project and the Coolidge Corner I-POD. He was a member of the Park and Recreation Commission for ten years and a Town Meeting Member from Precinct 16 for twelve years. His values are consistent with the values of the Brookline Civic Association, particularly his emphasis on working with neighborhood groups to balance town wide needs with neighborhood concerns. A life long resident of Brookline, Robert Allen is a graduate of the Baker School and Brookline High School. A small business owner in Brookline, he is the father of two young children and he considers his wife Kenna to be one of the most patient women in America.
The BCA's endorsement of Betsy DeWitt is based on her remarkable twenty-five year record of service to the people of Brookline. As President of the Lincoln PTO, she helped turn around a demoralized school community to succeed in building the New Lincoln School. As Executive Director of the Brookline Community Foundation for 20 years, she established the Brookline Safety Net fund to provide assistance to people in financial crisis. She has worked closely with the town's nonprofit organizations and helped raised funds to celebrate Brookline 300. For four years she served as Chair of the Town's Advisory Committee and knows the complexities of the town budget. She has helped develop affordable housing as President of the Brookline Improvement Coalition. She has served as Town Meeting Member from Precinct 5 for twenty-two years. Her two sons are graduates of the Lincoln School and Brookline High School. Her husband Dennis is Vice-Chairman of the Town's Preservation Commission.
"These two candidates," said Sperber, "are outstanding representatives of the many Brookline citizens who participate in civic affairs. Their knowledge and experience will well serve the people of Brookline"
